For eight months I have been part of a team for a project called StepDance. My official role was Project Manager. My job was to make sure that the show, its details, its members, its music, and all the pieces that make a professional production successful, were communicated, and were completed. I was responsible for organizing a production team and building a structure that enabled and empowered each member to do their job well and to move forward. It is a role that suits my skill set and one that I do well and enjoy.
WHY I WAS CHOSEN to be the project manager for the past eight months has very little to do with WHY I CHOSE to be part of the show though. At 41, I believe I must KEEP DANCING (metaphorically speaking). Even though I am entering my middle aged years, I am determined to continue supporting my passion for the arts and for the people in them. Being around artists, writers, dancers, photographers, and musicians greatly inspires me to dream big and to act on my dreams. Artists are doers by nature…their art is the way they communicate and express themselves and being around that energy as often as possible keeps me ignited.
As a mother of two young daughters I want to be an example to them. I want my girls to know a mother who is fulfilled, happy, and learning new things. I want them to be exposed to artists, writers, photographers, dancers, and musicians for the same reasons I want to be around them. And most importantly, I want them to know a Mom who follows her heart and who prays that they too do the same.
The other big WHY I participated in this show is that I BELIEVED in the vision and in the people who were involved. There was a big purpose for this show. Not only did we want to create a show that entertained our audience, but we wanted to create a show that made a difference in the lives of all the people involved. A show that would celebrate each artist’s talents and one that each member would be proud to say they were a part of. Each team member involved brought an abundant heart for that vision which radiated brightly as I watched each person who danced, stage managed, technically managed, played an instrument, and sang, give it (the purpose) everything they had. It is a tribe that anyone would be proud to be a part of and I am so grateful.Learn More
