Star Pillow

2 Comments Topic: Art

A few months ago I had the wonderful opportunity of participating in a “make your own fabric” class taught by the talented Alisa Burke. I learned so much and left the class with a stack of fabric that I completed.

I have been waiting for the opportunity to use the fabric to create some fun pillows.

Here is the first one! The star fabric is my creation. I used unbleached muslin and Jacquard Dye-na-flow”.

Take a peek at some of my other classmate’s fabric on Alisa’s POST about the INSPIRED experience.

As I was getting ready to head out of my friend’s party, she asked me, “are you staying for the fire dance”? “Fire Dance?” I asked. “In two minutes”, she answered.

When we purchased our small farm/house 15 years ago, it was part of a “grand plan” idea of what we thought we should do. First you go to school, then you get a job, then you buy a house, then you have children.

The work required to renovate this house was well beyond what my imagination could have conjured. I thought it was going to be like an episode of “This Old House”, no big deal…just start a project on Friday, blink your eyes, Sunday you are done. It was so much more than that. 15 years more than that to be exact.

At first, our energy was put toward the safety of the house. We ticked away at projects one by one….hole in the deck floor..check…heat on the second floor…check….windows replaced…check check…this continued for years until the giggle and pitter patter of children were added.

All of a sudden…house seemed less important and HOME became our focus.

Creating a HOME, for me, is all about the WAY we live our lives. HOME is the memories and life inside the walls (or for us…the farm). It is the stories that can be passed on through the generations. It is about creating an environment that supports our values and tells our stories. HOME is what defines family.

In addition to sharing my creative dreams, aspirations, and projects, I will be sharing my HOME.
